Özkıraç: The Ministry of Finance blocked the process

Kubilay Özkıraç, President of the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority Employees Union (El-Sen), spoke to the Kıbrıs Postası after Alayköy was left without electricity for almost a day due to a breakdown.

Özkıraç stated that Kıb-Tek personnel looked after malfunctions during working hours; however, he said that the decision not to work overtime was taken because the remaining overtime wages were not paid in advance. Saying "We are against drudgery," Özkıraç said that they accelerated the process in order to fix the malfunction in Alayköy within working hours.

Özkıraç said that the Ministry of Finance blocked the payment of additional overtimes and said, “The Ministry of Finance wanted to pay only 20 percent of the additional overtime. We did not accept this. Minister of Economy and Energy Sunat Atun and KIB-TEK Manager Gürcan Erdoğan made efforts to invest additional hours and to solve the problem.
“IF ADDITIONAL OFFICES ARE NOT PAID, DEFECTS OUTSIDE OF WORKING HOURS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED AGAIN”
El-Sen Chairman Özkıraç said, "If the additional shifts are not invested, the malfunctions outside the working hours will not be looked at again," and that they expect the problem to be resolved today.
