Amcaoğlu: Very serious number of students came to the country

Minister of National Education and Culture, Olgun Amcaoğlu, stated that a very serious number of students came to the country and announced that the number of students enrolled in universities in the TRNC increased to 108 thousand 295 with a record enrollment in the 2021-2022 academic year.

In his statement through the press office, Minister of National Education and Culture Olgun Amcaoğlu drew attention to the great contribution of students to the economy.

Minister Amcaoğlu said, "Our main concern is to achieve a very good quality in education, which we are happy to see that many of our universities have achieved this."

Minister Amcaoğlu said that the increase in the number of students in the last four years, despite the epidemic, is a good development for the country's economy.

Minister Amcaoğlu noted that the total number of students in the TRNC in the 2018-2019 academic year was 102 thousand 701, while the total number of newly enrolled students in the same academic year was determined as 20 thousand 800.

Minister Amcaoğlu stated that the total number of students in the 2019 – 2020 academic year is 103 thousand 878; He said that the total number of newly registered students increased to 21 thousand 867.

In the 2020 – 2021 academic year, the total number of students decreased to 103 thousand 108; He explained that the total number of newly registered students has increased to 22 thousand 688.

Regarding the current 2021-2022 academic year figures, Amcaoğlu said, “The total number of newly registered students in the ongoing academic year is 26 thousand 647. The total number of students has reached a record level and shows the figure of 108 thousand 295.

Minister Amcaoğlu pointed out that the 25 percent increase in the total number of newly enrolled students this year compared to the 2018-2019 academic year was a success, and added that he wanted to congratulate the ministry staff, especially the university administrations, who contributed to this success.

Amcaoğlu noted that 3,592 of the newly registered students in the 2021-2022 academic year were from the TRNC, 10,148 were from the Republic of Turkey and 12,907 were from third countries.

Minister Amcaoğlu announced that 51 thousand 280 of the 108 thousand 295 registered university students in the TRNC are third countries, 43 thousand 101 are citizens of the Republic of Turkey and 13 thousand 914 are citizens of the TRNC.
