Ömer Suay: We do not celebrate the week of the disabled, we try to find solutions

President of TRNC Disabled Solidarity Association, Ömer Suay, made a statement on the occasion of the 10-16 May International Week of the Disabled.

Suay said, “10-16 May Disability Week is a week where we aim to raise awareness in order to remind ourselves of the obstacles we face and seek solutions.”

“We believe and know that being aware will remove many of the barriers that already exist. As long as steps can be taken with sincerity and sensitivity,” said Suay and continued:

“As the TRNC Disabled Solidarity Association, we do not celebrate the week, we try to find solutions. In this context, we spend a lot of effort for the disabled people in particular, and our country in general, with the activities we carry out in every aspect of life, from social solidarity to education, from art to sports.”

“THIS SITUATION IS MAKING US SAD...”

Suay said, “I especially ask our administrators not to make a celebration statement or similar statements about the week. Because, celebrating the week, accepting it as if it doesn't exist for all problems means ignoring our efforts, struggles and goals, and this situation really upsets us.
