Yiğitcan Hekimoğlu: “Unfortunately, the contribution to sports in our country is insufficient!”
A- A A+

19 May Youth and Sports Day was celebrated all over the country with activities and emphasis on youth and sports. Speaking to the Cyprus Post on Youth and Sports Day, our national pride champion Yiğitcan Hekimoğlu cannot receive enough support despite his success.

ATHLETE YİĞİTCAN WHO CAN'T EAT MEDAL

Yiğitcan has been actively involved in athletics at a professional level for 12 years. He broke many national and international records, medals and firsts.

With the Turkish national team; Despite the contribution, restrictions and obstacles to the representation of Turkish Cypriots, it continues to maintain its belief and hope that it can emerge in the international arena as long as the opportunity is given.

GOVERNMENT CONTRIBUTION LIMITED

Yiğitcan draws attention to the fact that there is no system for the promotion and development of sports in the TRNC, and adds:

“We have been living through a period in which the contributions made or intended to be made have been interrupted for years due to the lack of desire of the institutions and organizations to contribute in terms of vision and effort, the ties established with bilateral relations and unfortunately the difficult and arduous progress.

Although I think that the individual achievements of the TRNC have an important place in the eyes of the public, I can say that these achievements have gained momentum in terms of athletics in recent years.”

THE PRIVATE SECTOR STRIVES TO SUPPORT THE ATHLETES DESPITE EVERYTHING

Although the private sector takes a step back due to the uncertainty of the functioning of the state and the laws (sponsorship law), Yiğitacan does not neglect to provide support thanks to the established ties and understanding and adds:

“Turkey has a structure and understanding that has been established for years and has been developed with recent successes. In this sense, the TRNC should examine world and European examples and develop itself, and it should aim to train athletes who can compete internationally in many branches by scanning for talent.”

YİĞİTCAN FOCUS ON 4 BIG TARGETS

Yiğitcan Hekimoğlu is focused on 4 big goals in 2022: World Athletics Championships, European Athletics Championships, Islamic Solidarity Games and Mediterranean Games. In addition to all these, he wants to benefit people who want to improve themselves in this field, together with performance athletic coaching...
