A statement issued by the ministry said that current work being carried out was on a beach which was already open aimed at preparing it for the upcoming summer season.

The statement also reminded that Maraş was part of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’s (TRNC) territory and that the TRNC was the only sole authority on the matter.

“The TRNC’s authorities do not require the permission of any authority, including the Greek Cypriots regarding any steps to be taken regarding the fenced-off town of Maraş,” it said.

The foreign ministry also said that the Greek Cypriot administration had displayed an act of great irresponsibility by occupying the agenda of the UN as well as other international actors while other global problems were pending and waiting to be addressed.
