“Türkiye’s effective and de facto guarantor role and the presence of Turkish soldiers in Cyprus are our red line and indispensable” Turkish National Defence Minister Hulusi Akar stressed at the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Social Resistance and Armed Forces Day Reception in Türkiye.

“Türkiye will always continue to stand by the Turkish Cypriots in their just cause” he added.

“In our work with the KKTC, we have not been able to find any response to all the solution proposals we have put forward,” Akar said adding that the Greek Cypriots did their best to separate themselves and differentiate the Turkish population there with an “uncompromising attitude.”

“Greek Cypriots should recognize the sovereignty and independence of the Turkish presence and accept their right to live in security and prosperity” he said.

“In particular, we expect third parties to be objective and impartial on the Cyprus issue, to abandon their strategic blindness and to approach events with an equal understanding,” Turkish Defence Minister Akar added.

Also speaking at the event, Health Minister İzlem Gürçağ Altuğra stressed that the 1st of August symbolized the existence and struggle of Turkish Cypriots on the island.

“We did not reach these days easily. Our people live on the island in peace today. The active and effective guarantee of Türkiye and the presence of the Turkish Army in Cyprus is our red line. We are determined to continue our path by further tightening our relations with motherland Türkiye” Altuğra added.
