PM Üstel says Abdulhamid Han a source of pride for the Turkish nation
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has said that the Abdulhamid Han, Türkiye’s latest drilling ship, has added strength to efforts in protecting the Turkish Cypriot peoples’ joint interests with the motherland in the Eastern Mediterranean.
He added that the hydrocarbon exploration activities carried out by Türkiye in the Eastern Mediterranean were within its own sovereign maritime areas and that the efforts by Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration to raise tensions were pointless.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was experiencing pride and happiness over the launch of Türkiye’s newest drilling vessel, the Abdulhamid Han.
The premier said that the drilling vessel was a source of pride, not only for the TRNC but the entire Turkish nation.
He added that the decision to name the three vessels which are escorting and providing support to Abdulhamid Han, “Hakan, Kutsi and Murat”, after the children of the late Major Nihat İlhan who were massacred by Greek Cypriots in Lefkoşa in 1963, was even more meaningful.
Üstel said that the addition of Abdulhamid Han had once again shifted the power balance in favour of Türkiye which together with the TRNC was determined to protect its rights and interests in the region.
He pointed out that the hydrocarbon exploration activities carried out by Türkiye in the Eastern Mediterranean were within its own maritime areas and that the unwarranted statements and efforts by Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration to raise tensions in the area were pointless.
