Liberation of Serdarlı celebrated with ceremony

The 48th anniversary of the liberation of the Serdarlı village was celebrated on Sunday with a ceremony in front of the Serdarlı Atatürk Monument.

First, wreaths were laid a minutes silence was observed and the flags were hoisted to the reciting of the National Anthem.

The Mayor of Serdarlı Halil Kasım said a few words during the ceremony.

He stated that there were great wars and sufferings in the country on July 20, 1974, 48 years ago, and that a part of the region was occupied and praised the heroic Turkish soldiers and the freedom fighters who fought shoulder to shoulder to liberate the region and its people.

President Ersin Tatar for his part stated that during the second phase of the Cyprus Peace Operation, which was carried out 48 years ago with the code word “Ayşe should go on vacation”, 48 years ago, the Turkish soldiers and the freedom fighters in the area had met.

“It was a turning point for the people. In order to ensure the security of the region the borders from Gazimağusa to Lefke were drawn. It is a very important date in terms of gaining our independence and sovereignty and laying the foundations of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, therefore, I congratulate the people of Serdarlı,” said Tatar.

Stating that the Turkish Cypriot people gained their freedom and sovereignty with the operation carried out by the Turkish Armed Forces, Tatar said that this struggle is still continuing.

“We will never return to pre 1974 conditions while we are carrying out national policies with the support, unity and solidarity with motherland Türkiye” said Tatar.

“We believe that our new policy should be based on sovereignty, and that we should embrace the TRNC to the end, defend our national goals fully aware of the responsibility we inherited from our ancestors on these lands left to us by our martyrs. It is our sacred duty to deliver a safe and secure future to our youth and to continue this policy to the end despite the attacks coming from everywhere” stated Tatar.
