Liberation of Gazimağusa marked with ceremonies

The first ceremony took place in front of the Victory Monument.

The second was realized at the İsmet İnonü Boulevard.

Speaking during the ceremonies President Ersin Tatar noted that the policy carried out with the full support of Motherland Türkiye is to maintain our presence on the island on the basis of sovereign equality.

Tatar emphasized that an independent Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will exist forever.

Also referring to the second phase of the Cyprus Peace Operation, the President said that the Turkish Cypriot people were waiting for the Turkish troops to arrive on the island and that on August 15 1974, the Turkish forces had united with the Mucahits, the Turkish Cypriot fighters.

Stressing that the sufferings of the Turkish Cypriot people have not and will not be forgotten, Tatar also touched upon the difficulties experienced during the years of struggle.

Once the speeches were completed folk dance groups performed and the Retro Musicians gave a concert at the Namık Kemal Square.
