Assoc. Dr. Yelkin Diker Coşkun stated that the most important feature that enables intelligence to become more functional is quality and qualified education, and said that stress negatively affects the development of intelligence.

Saying that intelligence is a multidimensional concept and has a hereditary, environmental and socio-cultural aspect, Yeditepe University Faculty of Education Deputy Dean Assoc. Dr. Yelkin Diker Coşkun said, "Intelligence has been defined in the field of educational sciences for the last 40-50 years as the ability to reason, adapt, reason, understand and evaluate the problem and produce possible solutions to the problem."

HOW CAN INTELLIGENCE BE MORE FUNCTIONAL?

Giving an example in his statement on the subject, Coşkun said, "The ability of an athlete to run very fast is an intelligence performance as it requires him to use both his cognitive and physical capacity at the same time. But if I am not doing a running competition, I can't say that the athlete is not smart if I am putting him in a math exam, and if he is unsuccessful, he is just not smart. I can say that it is missing in the performance indicator," he said.

Assoc. Dr. Yelkin Diker Coşkun stated that the most basic feature that enables intelligence to become more functional is quality and qualified education. He pointed out that the relationship between intelligence and education is linear, that intelligent people can be successful in education, while educated people can develop their intelligence capacities more.

Coşkun also drew attention to the importance of language use, which is the basic skill that feeds all other cognitive skills in the development of intelligence. He explained that gaining reading and active listening skills from an early age positively supports language skills and thus cognitive performance.

STRESS AFFECTS NEGATIVELY

Emphasizing that stress is one of the main factors that parents and educators should pay attention to in the process of developing intelligence, Coşkun also informed that a certain level of anxiety can be effective in achieving the goal, but too much stress negatively affects the development of intelligence.

Coşkun said, "As the level of stress increases, the person starts to have problems in performing those cognitive tasks, shows distraction, and the speed of perception decreases."
