Unite, the union representing ambulance workers, announced new strikes as its members prepared to leave work on January 23.

The union said its members will hold 10 more strikes in the coming weeks, threatening to lay off additional jobs if wage disputes are not resolved.

The union's Secretary-General, Sharon Graham, said in a written statement that the government "shamefully chose to demonize ambulance workers" rather than take action and resolve the conflict to protect the NHS.

Unite national official Onay Kasab stated that the solution to the salary dispute is in the hands of the government and that the dispute can be resolved through appropriate negotiations.

The union named GMB also announced that more than 10 thousand members in England and Wales will strike on the same dates as Unite.

Also, on 6 February ambulance workers will accompany thousands of nurses in what is expected to be the largest strike in NHS history.

Earlier this week, teachers, train drivers and nurses also announced new strikes in February and March.
