Raif İlker Buran, Director of the Meteorology Department, issued a statement on the occasion of "23 March World Meteorology Day".

Buran stated that 23 March World Meteorology Day has been celebrated since 1961 to represent the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), which was established on 23 March 1950 and is the authorized body on air, climate and water issues. He reported that his theme was “the future of air, climate and water for generations to come”.

Expressing that all people live in a world with a single atmosphere, Buran emphasized that international cooperation and information sharing is essential in terms of meteorology.

"We observe that the average temperatures increase by about 0.8 to 1.0 °C every year compared to the previous year," said Buran and used the following statements:

“Our region is among the regions most affected by global warming and climate change. Every year, we observe that the average temperatures increase by about 0.8 to 1.0 °C compared to the previous year. Contrary to seasonal forecasts, meteorological droughts, excessive precipitation, floods and floods continue to threaten our world. We need urgent action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and ensure that future generations both survive and thrive on our planet.”
