Özersay: “I’m Glad I Resigned from Parliament, My Conscience is Clear”
People’s Party (HP) leader Kudret Özersay commented on the opening of the Parliament, expressing satisfaction with his decision to resign as a member of parliament. He stated, “I’m glad I resigned; my conscience is clear. We are living through a period of a government that completely disregards the opposition and acts arbitrarily.”
Speaking on the Gündem program on Cyprus Post TV, Özersay recalled Prime Minister Ünal Üstel’s remarks that the government would continue until 2027, questioning, “What will be left to save by 2027? Frankly, we have serious concerns. Yet, for some reason, the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), which chooses to remain in Parliament as the opposition, doesn’t seem to share these concerns.”
"The Country Faces Organized Evil"
Özersay emphasized that the country is facing “organized evil,” and the solution does not lie in abandoning the ballot box. He criticized opposition parties that bring every government action to the judiciary, stating that politics should also apply pressure through other means.
He warned that relying solely on legal actions could place the judiciary in a difficult position, where it must balance between public security and the needs of the state, potentially sidelining political processes.
"Unofficial Talks Allow for Communication"
Regarding President Ersin Tatar’s informal meeting proposal with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides during his talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Özersay said, “As long as the talks remain informal, two opportunities arise: contact can be established, and even if there is no common ground, it allows both sides to communicate.”
He added that no one should be concerned about this, especially those who support a solution, as diplomacy provides opportunities in such cases.
