During a meeting with political party leaders represented in the TRNC Parliament, Tatar provided details on his talks in New York. He also announced upcoming meetings with Halkın Partisi leader Kudret Özersay and Toplumcu Demokrasi Partisi leader Zeki Çeler.

In the margins of the 79th UN General Assembly, Tatar met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and other officials, including TRNC Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu. Tatar highlighted Erdoğan's address at the General Assembly, where he reiterated the necessity of recognizing the TRNC’s sovereign equality and called for the development of economic, diplomatic, and political relations with the TRNC.

"Federation is No Longer an Option"

Tatar pointed out that Turkish President Erdoğan also emphasized that the possibility of a federal solution for Cyprus was no longer on the table, citing past failed negotiations, including the 2017 Crans-Montana talks. He reiterated that future negotiations must be based on a two-state solution.

Reflecting on his term in office, Tatar noted that the TRNC's policy of sovereign equality, which he presented at the UN's 5+1 talks in Geneva in 2021, is non-negotiable. He also highlighted the historical context of the situation, reminding that the 1964 UN Security Council decisions led to the exclusion of Turkish Cypriots from the state apparatus.

Dialogue and Cooperation

Tatar reiterated his commitment to dialogue, stating that despite the lack of progress due to preconditions not being met, informal talks and negotiations continued. He also expressed his willingness to cooperate with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides on matters such as energy, water, and economic projects that would benefit both communities.

In his closing remarks, Tatar stressed that the TRNC, supported by Turkey, would continue its efforts to strengthen and develop despite international embargoes. "We will remain on the right path, in cooperation with Turkey, and continue to take steps to strengthen the TRNC," he said.
