Yılmaz: "We Will Ensure the TRNC’s Energy Security Permanently"
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz announced that Turkey will ensure the permanent energy security of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) following a meeting with Prime Minister Ünal Üstel.
During the meeting, Yılmaz highlighted the importance of guaranteeing a stable energy supply for the TRNC, stating, "We will permanently secure the energy supply of the TRNC."
Meeting Details
Before the meeting at the Presidential Complex, Yılmaz expressed his satisfaction with hosting Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu, and Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı in Turkey. He also congratulated Üstel for his re-election as the leader of the National Unity Party (UBP) at its 23rd Congress.
Economic Goals for Northern Cyprus
Yılmaz emphasized the importance of the TRNC’s economic development, stating, "The primary goal is for the Turkish Cypriots to build a stronger economic foundation and move toward a prosperous future with stability." He also recalled President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s speech at the United Nations, where he reaffirmed his support for the recognition of the TRNC.
Focus on Energy Projects
The meeting also covered discussions about an electricity cable project between Turkey and the TRNC, with a feasibility study to be reviewed. Yılmaz stressed that the energy projects were vital for achieving the TRNC’s development objectives and ensuring long-term energy security.
Project and Cooperation Expectations
Yılmaz highlighted the importance of completing projects under the 2024 Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement. He noted that projects in areas such as agricultural irrigation, social housing, and e-government applications would significantly contribute to the TRNC’s development. "We aim to ensure that our Turkish Cypriot brothers and sisters live in the prosperity they deserve," Yılmaz added.
Future Goals and Messages of Thanks
Concluding the meeting, Yılmaz expressed optimism about the TRNC's future and extended his well wishes to Prime Minister Üstel and his government. "Northern Cyprus deserves to take its rightful place in the international arena as an independent and sovereign power," he stated.
