Over Two Years of Illegal Residency Revealed

Nataniel Michel, Abdoulaye Camara, and Alexander N. Gweh, who were arrested for residing in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) without permission, were brought before the court. It was revealed that the suspects had been living illegally for over two years.

The trio was arrested by patrolling teams in Gönyeli after being found to be residing in the TRNC without proper documentation. They appeared at the Lefkoşa District Court yesterday morning.

Police officers Batuhan Kaya and Diren Nas reported the facts in court, stating that the suspects were charged with illegal residency in the TRNC.

According to the police, Abdoulaye Camara and Alexander N. Gweh were identified on September 28, 2024, around 16:00, on Atatürk Avenue in Gönyeli by a police team from the Lefkoşa Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit. They had been residing illegally since November 29, 2021, accumulating a total of 1,034 days.

Police also reported that Nataniel Michel was identified later, on October 1, 2024, at around 20:11, also on Atatürk Avenue. It was determined that he had been living in the TRNC without permission for 1,046 days since November 20, 2021.

The police confirmed that statements had been taken from the Immigration Department regarding the suspects, verifying their illegal residency in the country.

With the investigation complete, the police requested that the suspects be sentenced to a term not exceeding 20 days in prison.

Evaluating the testimony, Judge Nuray Necdet ordered that the suspects be remanded in custody for a period not exceeding 20 days.
