Cyprus Election Poll Shows DISY and AKEL Tied as Fragmented Parliament Emerges
A new opinion poll published just 10 days before Cyprus’ parliamentary elections suggests that the island’s political landscape is becoming increasingly fragmented, with seven parties expected to enter the House of Representatives, while the centre-right Democratic Rally DISY and the left-wing AKEL remain locked in a close race at the top.
According to the survey conducted by Cymar Market Research for ANT1 and published by Politis, fieldwork was carried out between April 28 and May 10 through random telephone interviews with 1,410 eligible voters across Cyprus.
The poll indicates that if elections were held on Sunday, the House of Representatives would include seven political forces. Based on projected seat distribution, DISY and AKEL would each secure 14 seats, followed by the far-right ELAM with 10 seats, and DIKO with 8 seats.
Smaller parties would also gain representation, with the Direct Democracy movement projected to win 4 seats, ALMA 3 seats, and Volt Cyprus 3 seats.
In terms of voting intention, DISY leads narrowly with 17%, followed closely by AKEL at 16%. ELAM stands at 11%, DIKO at 8%, while Direct Democracy and ALMA each receive 5%, and Volt Cyprus 4%.
The poll also highlights a significant bloc of undecided voters, which appears to be the largest “party” in the race, accounting for 18% of respondents who answered “don’t know” or declined to respond.
When undecided voters are redistributed, both DISY and AKEL rise to 22%, while ELAM climbs to 15%, DIKO to 10%, Direct Democracy to 7%, ALMA to 6%, and Volt Cyprus to 5%, underscoring the volatility of the final stretch of the campaign.
