Greek Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoannis Kasulidis said that if the Turkish Cypriot side accepts the "return" of the closed March in response to the "opening" of Ercan Airport and Famagusta Port, the profit it will provide to the Greek Cypriot side will be more than its price.

Alihtia quoted Kasulidis' statement to RIK yesterday with the headline "Timbu's (Ercan) Profit More Than Its Price… The Foreign Minister Emphasized the Positive Approach of the USA to the GYO Initiative".

Kasulidis, holding "responsible" for the stagnation in the Cyprus problem, the Turkish side's desire for a two-state solution, sovereign equality and equal international status, said that they would insist on the proposal that the closed Maraş be given to the Greek side in return for the "opening" of the Ercan Airport and Famagusta Port, although the Turkish side did not accept it. .

"This proposal will take away the Turkish side's argument for the isolation of the Turkish Cypriots," said Kasulidis.

Reminding that the proposal is “dangerous” on the grounds that the Turkish side might strengthen the two-state argument, Kasulidis said, “All proposals have a price and a profit, and they are calculated. Turkish Cypriots' arguments for isolation are taken away. If Maraş is saved, its profit will be more than its price.”

The Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister noted that the Americans, who positively approached this proposal of the Greek Cypriot side, find it difficult for the Cyprus negotiations to start this year, as elections will be held both in Turkey and in Southern Cyprus.

In his statement to RIK, Kasulidis emphasized that the relations between the USA and Southern Cyprus have been developing at a rapid pace for 4 years, and said, “What they have done with the USA on CYCLOPS (Cyprus Center for Land, Open Seas and Port Security) stressed the agreement.

Yoannis Kasulidis pointed out that the construction of the CYCLOPS facility in Larnaca, the cost of which is covered by the USA, is about to be completed, and said that he invited the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Southern Cyprus.
