Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu said on Monday that the Greek Cypriot side continued to show impudence on the Cyprus Issue.

“Such attacks against Turkiye by these poor wretches who think they represent the so-called Republic of Cyprus and their insistence on ignoring the Turkish Cypriots, are unacceptable,” he said in response to the latest remarks made by the Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides to the Ta Nea newspaper.

The Greek Cypriot foreign minister had accused Turkiye of abusing its powers as a guarantor country in Cyprus.

Ertuğruloğlu reminded that it was Greece which had abused its powers as a guarantor country in Cyprus, carrying out a coup on the island.

He added that to blame Turkiye of abusing its powers as a guarantor country was nothing more than concrete proof of the Greek Cypriot administration’s impudence and its ability to distort historical facts.

“As if this was not enough, the Greek Cypriot administration has now crossed the line by setting conditions before Turkiye for the construction of the Israel-Turkiye natural gas pipeline. This is yet another example of the Greek Cypriot side’s typical spoilt behaviour and mentality to which we have become accustomed to,” the foreign minister said.

He pointed out that Kasoulides must understand that the Turkish Cypriot side’s policy in favour of a two-state solution based on sovereign equality and international equal status will not change.

“This is the policy and stance which will shape the future of the island,” Ertuğruloğlu said.
