International Museum Week is being marked this week from May 18-24 in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Issuing a message to mark the occasion, the head of the Department of Antiquities and Museums which operates under the Prime Ministry, and Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Nazım Ced said that museums and ruins can be visited free of charge today.

In his message Ced said that various events will be held to raise social awareness on museums.

International Museum week has been marked annually in the TRNC since 1986.

“Setting out from the slogan based on this year’s theme “The Power of Museums”, I would like to wish the best for our country and all our museum professionals and their employees a more contemporary, stronger understanding of museums”, he said.

Meanwhile in line with the 18-24 May Museums Week students and academicians from the Cyprus International University paid a visit to Bayrak Radio Television Corporation (BRTK) Broadcasting History Museum.

The students and academicians learned about the devices that have been used at Bayrak Radio from 1963 until now.

BRTK Director Meryem Özkurt, accompanied the students and informed them about the corporation’s history.
