In the great fire that broke out in Kalkanlı 2 years ago, some of the thousands of years old historical monument olive trees were destroyed. Hasan Karlıtaş, Vice President of the Lefke Tourism Association, shared the current situation of the olive trees, some of which were turned into ashes in the fire in Kalkanlı 2 years ago, on his social media account.

Hasan Karlıtaş made the following statements in his post:

“The monumental olive trees in Kalkanli... Even though we lost some of them, the remnants after the fire still continue to live and resist... As it has been for hundreds or even thousands of years... We must preserve them and carry them into the future...”

WHAT HAPPENED?

As a result of the fire that broke out in the south of Tepebaşı village in May 2020 and reached Kalkan with strong winds, the centuries-old olive trees in the Kalkanlı Valley of Güzelyurt were also damaged, and some of the monumental olive trees were ash.
