The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre has returned to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) after completing his contacts in the Turkish city of Antalya.

As part of his contacts, Töre visited the Alanya Journalists’ Association during which he spoke on the Cyprus Issue.

Speaking during the meeting, the parliamentary speaker said that the Greek Cypriot side’s mentality was the biggest obstacle in the way of a solution in Cyprus.

He reminded that the Greek Cypriots had rejected on more than one occasion, solution plans for a settlement.

“The Greek Cypriots continue to see Cyprus as Greek and have no intention of seeing or treating Turkish Cypriots as their equals. The absence of an understanding for a partnership and the Greek Cypriots insistence to see Turkish Cypriots as a minority remains the biggest obstacle for a solution in Cyprus,” Töre said.

He also pointed out that the Cyprus cause was a national struggle being waged jointly with Türkiye.

Töre added that the Greek Cypriots’ intransigent stance left Turkish Cypriots with no other option but to protect and preserve their own state, the TRNC.

The TRNC Speaker of Parliament said that it was out of the question for the Turkish Cypriot people to abandon their state, their freedom or accept any settlement that envisaged the scrapping of Turkiye’s guarantees or the withdrawal of Turkish troops.
