Tatar congratulates Türkiye on launch of gas pipeline
President Ersin Tatar on Monday welcomed the announcement by Türkiye that it has started laying the first pipes for the pipeline network that will bring onshore natural gas, which the country has discovered in the Black Sea.
He said that the move, which brought Türkiye closer to achieving its goal of energy independence, was important. In a written statement on Monday, President Ersin Tatar expressed the hope that natural resources will be a means to achieve regional cooperation rather than raise tensions or become a source of conflict.
Congratulating his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the launch, Tatar said, “May this launch bring luck to everyone. I would like to congratulate the Turkish people for this great endeavour.”
Pointing out that the unilateral steps taken by the Greek Cypriot leadership was a source of tension in the region, President Tatar said that support given to the Greek Cypriot administration in a region where tensions already run high hurt confidence-building efforts on the island and create the basis for new problems.
He reminded that the Turkish side’s proposal to hold a regional conference on the fair and equitable distribution of the region’s hydrocarbon resources was still on the table.
Tatar described this as a golden opportunity to establish the cooperation necessary.
