The date that Sezgin Baran Korkmaz will be extradited to the USA has been announced.

It has been learned that Sezgin Baran Korkmaz, who is imprisoned in Austria, will be extradited to the USA on 15 July.

The Austrian Ministry of Justice granted extradition priority to this country on the grounds that the first of the crimes charged against Korkmaz was committed in the USA and the number of victims in this country was high on 15 June.

The Wels Court regarding Korkmaz accepted Turkey's extradition request in August 2021, and later found the US's extradition request appropriate.

WHAT HAPPENED?  

In the first hearing of the lawsuit brought against Korkmaz and 10 persons, 3 of whom are foreign nationals, on 17 May 2020 at the Istanbul 10th Criminal Court of First Instance, for the crime of "laundering the value of property" obtained from the USA with unjust gain from the USA, the court ruled that Korkmaz He had ordered his arrest in his absence.

Wanted by Turkey and the United States, Korkmaz was detained by the security forces in a town about 250 kilometers from the Austrian capital Vienna on 19 June. Korkmaz, who was brought to Vienna, was later sent to Wels, where it was ruled that his detention would continue at the hearing held on July 5, 2020.
