A variety of cultural and artistic events will take place throughout the five day festival.

The festival will also play host to a variety of concerts.

The Mehmetçik Grape Festival, one of the most traditional festivals in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was inaugurated with a ceremony attended by President Ersin Tatar.

The ceremony started with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem followed by folk dance performances.

Guest folk dancing teams from Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and Mexico also performed at the festival.

Delivering an opening speech at the event, Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre stated that the Mehmetçik region has a very important place with its name and history or the TRNC and emphasized the importance of domestic production.

Noting that the Turkish Cypriot people organized such events in order to have their own festivals and fairs, Töre said that with the international festivals unfair embargos and isolations had been overcome.

President Ersin Tatar for his part said that they are trying to develop the country under the roof of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and noted that the Mehmetçik region is one of the most distinguished regions of the country with great tourism potential.

“Great efforts continue despite the economic crisis, the pandemic and various negativities” said Tatar and underlined the need to support producers and the products produced by using traditional methods inherited from our ancestors.

He also expressed the belief that once the effects of the pandemic have eased, economic developments and improvements will increase in the region especially in the tourism sector.

A variety of concerts will be realized in line with the five day festival.

Tonight 13 local artists will take part in a Barış Manço and Cem Karaca night.

On Friday, 5th of August at 8.30pm a Cyprus Night and Retro Musicians concert organized by the Mehmetçik Culture and Solidarity Association will take place.

On the 6th of August Suavi will perform and on the 7th of August on the final night of the festival Edip Akbayram will perform.
