During his visits, the Turkish Minister said that they will focus on promoting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and that making the Turkish Cypriot presence known outside of Türkiye is among their primary goals.

The Turkish Minister for Culture and tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy was first received by President Ersin Tatar at the Presidential Palace.

Speaking during the visit, Ersoy emphasized the importance of passing on the events in Cyprus to future generations and said that the Barbarism Museum, which was restored, is important in this context.

He also pointed out that it is very important to develop the social life and economy of the country and stated that Türkiye is always ready to support the TRNC.

Also touching upon the new airport Ersoy stated that with the further promotion of the TRNC in 2023 air traffic to the country will increase.

“We will support all kinds of activities to increase the promotion of the TRNC at national and international platforms. Our cultural promotion activities will also continue to increase,” said Ersoy.

President Ersin Tatar for his part referred to the newly restored Museum of Barbarism and stated that the museum will shed light on recent history and will reveal the drama that took place there, and thanked everyone who contributed, especially TİKA.

Reminding that Türkiye always supports TRNC tourism, Tatar said that in the future, tourism will develop further and the TRNC will become a brand destination.

Pointing out that there has been a significant increase in the number of students preferring our universities, President Tatar emphasized that the mobility in both higher education and tourism will bring the TRNC to a better place.

Tatar said, “Our priority is to be a centre of attraction in the Eastern Mediterranean, with the TRNC taking part in promotional activities. In my meeting with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Konya, we received support from Azerbaijan. All these are positive developments. Our cooperation will continue to move our struggle to a better position.”

During the visit paid to him, the Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre noted that a national cause is being carried out in Cyprus.

“We have declared our state and our Republic by preserving our national and spiritual identity. As Atatürk stated, the Republic is the greatest masterpiece. Our whole effort is not to be deceived or return to pre 1974 conditions. It is not right to return to federalism in Cyprus. It was the Greek Cypriots who abolished the partnership in Cyprus. Their intentions have not changed” he said.

Töre also expressed his satisfaction with the digital restoration of the Museum of Barbarism, adding that the Turkish Cypriots together with Türkiye will continue on their way in national unity and solidarity.

Turkish Minister Ersoy was also received by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel. No statement was made to the press after the meeting.
