NASA's seismic instrument InSight captures sound signals from meteorites falling on Mars
The instrument InSight, which studies seismic activity on Mars, captured the sound signals of meteorites falling on the planet.
According to the news in the science journal Sciences et Avenir, the NASA vehicle InSight, which was sent for seismic research on Mars in 2018 and is the main designer of the Paris Globe Physics Institute, signed a first on the planet.
Detecting a series of earthquakes in July, InSight managed to record the seismic and acoustic waves created by meteorites falling on Mars this time.
Raphael Garcia, a researcher at the Higher Aeronautics and Space Institute of Toulouse, explained that the vehicle even detected the positions of the impacting craters.
Aiming to find out more about Mars, scientists hope to capture mild seismic vibrations on Mars.
Meteorites, which turn into fireballs when they enter the atmosphere on Mars, as they do on Earth, create a seismic wave when their incompletely burned parts hit the ground.
