WHAT IS HIV/AIDS?

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), which first appeared in the 1980s, directly damages the immune system. HIV reduces body resistance, causing people to get sick easily. Those who carry this virus are called "HIV positive".

AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is defined as the disease state that occurs after the HIV virus weakens the immune system. AIDS is called the last stage of HIV.

According to the 2021 report of the United Nations (UN) Joint Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), 79.3 million people have been infected with HIV since the beginning of the HIV epidemic in the world. 36.3 million people died due to AIDS-related diseases.
