While an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 occurred at 4.17 in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş, two earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.4 and 6.5 occurred in Gaziantep.

President Ersin Tatar made a statement about the earthquake that took place in Turkey and was felt in our country as well.

President Tatar's statement is as follows:

"Unfortunately, we woke up to the very sad news from Turkey at 03:30.

According to the first determinations in Turkey, there were 32 consecutive aftershocks with different destructive values, first 7.4 and then 6.6 in different provinces of our homeland, namely Adana, Kahramanmaraş, Adıyaman, Malatya, Gaziantep, Diyarbakır and Urfa.

President of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Vice-President Fuat Oktay, Minister of Interior Mr. Süleyman Soylu and other senior officials immediately started working with AFAD by establishing a crisis desk.

The 7.4 magnitude earthquake was felt in Cyprus at the same time.

Interior Minister Soylu pointed out that there were casualties in the statements he made on the live broadcast, and called for urgent warnings and international assistance.

We know that our sports teams that go to the Republic of Turkey for sports purposes are also in disaster areas. Some of the convoys could not be reached due to malfunctions in the telephone lines due to the earthquake. We are mobilizing with all our means to reach our unreachable convoys.

I, too, carefully monitor and follow the developments and feel great pain.

We heartily share the pain of the earthquake in our homeland, wish God's mercy on our lost brothers and hope that our loss of life will be few.

On behalf of myself and my citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, I convey with great sadness, pain and sorrow my wishes for God's mercy on our losses, a speedy recovery to our wounded brothers and a great recovery to our homeland Turkey."
