The General Directorate of Police (PGM) Press Officer warned against telephone fraud.

“Never forget that no police, prosecutor or bank officer will ask you to withdraw your money from the bank and deposit it into another account, make money order or EFT,” the police said.

The statement from PGM is as follows:

“Some malicious individuals, who call especially old people and introduce themselves as police, prosecutor or bank officer, using foreign telephone lines, continue to defraud especially elderly/retired people for high amounts.

It has been determined that the elderly people are defrauded by producing various scenarios for the people they call and by having the people withdraw their money from the bank and transfer it to the account numbers they specify (wire transfer/EFT).

Calling you on the phone;

Never give your identity information, bank account information or passwords to anyone who introduces himself as a police officer, prosecutor or an officer of the bank where you hold your account.

Don't let them keep you busy on the phone.

Do not follow their instructions.

Hang up and immediately call 155 Police Hotline or the nearest police station.

Do not send your money to accounts you have been told.

If you have, immediately call the police station and report the incident to the police without delay.

In this context, it is highly requested that the children and/or family relatives of our elderly/retired elders warn against such malicious people and, if they encounter such a situation, report the incident to the nearest police station.

Never forget that no police, prosecutor or bank officer will ask you to withdraw your money from the bank, deposit it into another account, make a wire transfer or EFT.”
