In his speech at the ceremonies, President Ersin Tatar emphasized that the Turkish Cypriots resisted the Greek attacks in Gaziveren and Çamlıköy and gave martyrs for independence, freedom and sovereignty, and said, “We have never forgotten our martyrs, we will never forget them. We have been here for 59 years, and we will continue to be here after 59 years.”

The first ceremony was held in front of the Gaziveren Martyrs' Monument, and the second ceremony was held in front of the Çamlıköy Martyr Emin İzzet Bust.

The ceremonies started with the laying of wreaths according to the protocol order. Then, flags were hoisted, accompanied by a moment of silence, a shot of respect, and the National Anthem.

In the ceremonies that continued with the reading of the poems, the speech emphasizing the meaning and importance of the day was made by President Ersin Tatar.

Noting that the earthquake disaster inflicted great pain on the country and the Republic of Turkey, President Tatar expressed his condolences to those who lost their lives in the earthquake and once again condolences to the Turkish people.

Pointing out that the Turkish Cypriot people have suffered a lot in these lands and have gone through difficult times, Tatar said that they showed unity and solidarity in these difficult days, and that the motherland Turkey has always stood by the Turkish Cypriots in this process.

Reminding that “Turkish Cypriots were the founding partners of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960”, Tatar said that “the Greek Cypriots and then President Makarios saw this agreement as a springboard to Enosis and committed genocides”.

Underlining that the Turkish Cypriots resisted the Greek attacks in Gaziveren and Çamlıköy as well, and gave martyrs for independence, freedom and sovereignty, Tatar said, “We have never forgotten our martyrs, we will never forget them. We have been here for 59 years, and we will continue to be here after 59 years.”

President Tatar continued his speech as follows:

“We are facing injustices in Cyprus. With the European Union games, Greek Cypriots talk about an agreement on a federal basis in various different international platforms. What they mean by an agreement on a federal basis is to draw us into the 'Republic of Cyprus', to cut us off from the motherland over time and make us a minority.”

“WE HAVE SEEN THESE GAMES A LOT”

Stressing that the Turkish Cypriots will never return to the negotiating table without accepting the sovereign equality and equal international status, President Tatar said, “We have seen these games a lot, they want to make us give up and subject us to the Greeks. We cannot be subject to them. Because our martyrs gave their lives for independence, freedom and our honorable life.

“GUARANTEE OF HOMELAND TURKEY AND THE EXISTENCE OF TURKISH MILITARY IS OUR RED LINE”

Expressing that the Turkish Cypriots will continue to live with dignity as a Turkish state in the Eastern Mediterranean as an inseparable part of the Turkish nation, President Tatar said, “We will never accept going back to 1974. The guarantorship of the motherland Turkey and the presence of the Turkish soldiers are our red line, they are indispensable for us," he said.

President Tatar stated that oppressive embargoes and isolations are still applied to the Turkish Cypriot people and all kinds of intrigues are being played to destroy the resistance of this people and to subordinate them to the South, and said that the Turkish Cypriot people will continue to resist and that if there is an agreement, they can take part in this agreement with their sovereign state.

The ceremonies ended with a prayer for the martyrs.
