Foreign press focuses on sanctions issue in Southern Cyprus
It was stated that the Southern Cyprus government preferred to act on two axes regarding the sanctions imposed by the USA and the UK against private and legal persons from Southern Cyprus, who were accused of cooperating with the Russian oligarchs by violating the sanctions against Russia.
Last week, Southern Cyprus closing 10,000 Russian bank accounts made headlines in the global media.
In its article titled "Foreign Press Focuses on Sanctions Issue in Southern Cyprus," Haravgi newspaper wrote that Southern Cyprus is in the spotlight of foreign media regarding the imposition of sanctions against Russian oligarchs and those who cooperate with them.
In a new article published in The Guardian, the newspaper referred to the measures taken to date and also reported on "successive meetings, a clear atmosphere of panic, politicians' frantic efforts to limit the damage, and Cyprus being once again caught up in a storm related to Russia."
The newspaper added that a Politico article pointed out Southern Cyprus traditionally has strong ties with Russia.
