Report on Electricity Production and Interconnection in Northern Cyprus Shared with Public
The report titled "Current Electricity Production Status and Interconnection Options in Northern Cyprus," prepared by Prof. Dr. Murat Fahrioğlu and Prof. Dr. Serkan Abbasoğlu upon the request of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce (KTTO), was shared with the public at a press conference held at the KTTO Conference Hall.
Following the opening speech by KTTO President Turgay Deniz, the presentation of the "Current Electricity Production Status and Interconnection Options in Northern Cyprus" report was made by Prof. Dr. Murat Fahrioğlu and Prof. Dr. Serkan Abbasoğlu.
Deniz emphasized that the electricity issue has become a major problem for everyone from producers to consumers, business people engaged in trade, farmers, hoteliers, and universities, and the purpose of preparing this report was to contribute to finding solutions to electricity problems.
Deniz noted that the report, prepared by two esteemed academics, was not a "feasibility report" but aimed to demonstrate the benefits of interconnection systems and how they could be implemented, rather than the comprehensive solution to the electricity problem.
The report summarized the history of the country's electricity production, projected consumption, and calculated the peak demand expected to be reached in 2040. It also evaluated interconnection options that could be available between Northern Cyprus and Turkey, and discussed the most appropriate technology with its justifications.
Deniz expressed hope that the report would contribute to finding solutions to the electricity problem by emphasizing the importance of interconnection investment and outlining steps to achieve high-quality, efficient, environmentally
