In a statement, Twitter said that it had blocked access to certain content in Turkey in compliance with court orders and to ensure that it remains available to users in the country. The statement also indicated that affected account holders have been informed of the action taken. It is important to note that the blocked content will still be accessible in other parts of the world.

The move comes after a social media regulation came into effect in April, which required social media platforms with daily access of over one million users in Turkey to provide reports to the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) every six months. The reports must include statistics and categorical information related to requests for content removal or access restrictions, as well as the evaluation of such requests and the technical infrastructure used to process them.

The reports must also include information about the staff responsible for implementing the decisions, the administrative capacity for processing requests, the timeframes for implementing decisions, and the categories and statistical details of requests received from individuals, including the number of requests and the reasons for their denial, if applicable. Additionally, the reports must contain details of decisions made by judicial or administrative authorities, including the relevant legislation, decision-makers, methods of notification, and timeframes for compliance.
