According to Alithia, Mayor Fedonus, in a post on his personal social media account, mentioned that drug transfers are conducted through pigeons due to the risk of detection by unmanned aerial vehicles.

The newspaper reported that despite Mayor Fedonos raising the issue and the authorities being aware of it a year and a half ago, the police in Baf and Lefkoşa did not take any action. Along with his post, Fedonos also shared a photo depicting pigeons with drugs tied to their legs. The article further mentioned that Fedonos had filed a complaint about a 35-year-old individual who had built an illegal pigeon coop and had threatened him with death after the municipality's team demolished the coop. The person in question was subsequently arrested by the police, as reported.
