The analysis by the Campaign Against Arms Trade, an organization working towards the elimination of arms trade, revealed that the UK's arms exports rebounded in 2022 after a two-year decline. The sales were calculated based on individual export licenses known as Single Individual Export Licenses (SIELs), which are the most commonly exported and reported category.

According to the analysis, the country's arms exports reached their highest level since the early 2000s when data in this field began to be disclosed, totaling £8.5 billion last year. This marked a doubling of arms exports compared to 2021.

Qatar became the largest destination for the UK's arms exports, with £2.7 billion worth of sales. The export of Typhoon fighter jets, with the first delivery taking place in August 2022, accounted for £2.4 billion of the arms exports to Qatar.

Saudi Arabia followed with £1.1 billion and the United States with £860 million. The UK's arms exports to Turkey were estimated at £424 million, while exports to Ukraine amounted to £401 million last year.
