Tomorrow is the last day for the selection of candidates for the Northern Cyprus by-election

The deadline for political parties to nominate candidates for the 'Parliamentary and Local Authorities By-Elections' to be held on Sunday, June 25 in Northern Cyprus is tomorrow.

By-elections will be held for 1 vacant Lefkosa (Nicosia) parliamentary seat in the 50-seat Republic Assembly, which became vacant after the resignation of People's Party leader and Lefkosa Deputy Kudret Özersay in June last year. In addition, there will be local by-elections for 1 vacant muhtarlık (village headman) position and for 50 total vacancies in the elderly council in 5 districts for different reasons.

So far, 9 people have announced their candidacy for the June 25 by-elections. The coalition government partners UBP, DP, and YDP will nominate Ali Başman, Serhan Aktunç, and Figen Yaman Lesinger, respectively, while the main opposition CTP's nominee is Sami Özuslu. TDP is nominating Tacan Reynar, while the Independence Path party is nominating Umut Ersoy. Abdullah Korkmazhan, Meriç Erülkü, and Çetin Sadeli have announced that they will participate as independent candidates in the elections."
