The vaccination campaign, which began on May 28, 2023, also included the vaccination of 5,750 sheep and goats from 46 farms in the region. The 20,000 doses of the sheep and goat pox vaccine were provided by the Turkish Republic.

The campaign is being conducted by six Veterinary Department teams and five authorized veterinary physician teams with the necessary protective and biosafety measures in place. Infected animals are eliminated, and farms are disinfected as part of the eradication efforts.

The vaccination provides strong immunity against sheep and goat pox for two years and leaves no residues in milk, milk products, and meat. The officials have stated that there is no health risk to human consumption from products derived from vaccinated animals.

The Gazimağusa Kaymakamlığı, local administrations, and other government personnel from the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources are supporting the vaccination campaign. The authorities aim to vaccinate all animals in the quarantine area shortly to prevent further spread of the disease.
