Mustafa Özkan Altaykan to be held in custody for 3 days after shooting his neighbor in Lapta with a rifle
Mustafa Özkan Altaykan, who shot his neighbor Colin Peter Doran in the right side of the abdomen with an air rifle after he came to talk to him about his dogs and cats attacking other animals, will be held in custody for three days during the investigation of the case.
During the hearing related to the "Aggravated Assault and Use of Explosive Material" incident that took place in Lapta, police officer Hüseyin Arabulucu gave his testimony regarding the investigation. He explained that on June 2, 2023, Altaykan shot his neighbor Colin Peter Doran in the right side of the abdomen with an air rifle he possessed after he came to talk to him about his animals attacking other pets. Doran was taken to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital by ambulence and is undergoing surgery.
The police officer also mentioned that a search of Altaykan’s house was conducted and the air rifle that was used in the shooting was found, along with 520 air rifle pellets of 4.5mm in size. The officer stated that Altaykan's verbal statements are still being verified and further investigations are required, including the analysis of camera footage. Therefore, the police requested the court to hold Altaykan in custody for three days.
After reviewing the evidence presented in court, Judge Dilşah Karayel ordered that Altaykan be held in police custody for the three-day investigation.
