President Tatar urges ımmediate action to tackle fatal traffic accidents in Northern Cyprus

President Ersin Tatar has called for resolute measures to be taken urgently to address the rising number of fatal traffic accidents in Northern Cyprus, which is reportedly four times higher than in European Union countries.

Speaking after a meeting with traffic police and experts earlier this week, including the Traffic Director of the Police General Directorate, Ibrahim Ulusoy, Traffic Department Director Ahmet Aydın, Mehmet Avcı, the President of the Traffic Accidents Prevention Association, Traffic Officer Serdar Karpuzcu, and Presidential Advisor Gökhan Güler, President Tatar emphasized the need to take immediate, realistic, and result-oriented steps based on scientific data to address this alarming situation affecting every family.

Acknowledging that this painful reality requires a comprehensive approach encompassing various aspects such as education, infrastructure, legal regulation, emergency and medical services, and effective monitoring and enforcement, President Tatar stressed that all stakeholders must take responsibility for addressing the problem.

Highlighting the social, psychological, and legal dimensions of this problem, President Tatar urged all citizens to be diligent, mindful, and responsible, to foster traffic awareness, and to comply with traffic rules and regulations.

President Tatar also commended ongoing efforts to address infrastructure shortcomings and pledged to follow up on this work.

He concluded by reminding everyone of the value of human life and the need for individuals to act responsibly and help law enforcement officials to prevent traffic accidents.
