Traffic report reveals high number of accidents and violations in Northern Cyprus

A recently released traffic report for May 29 to June 4 in Northern Cyprus has shown a concerning number of accidents and traffic violations.

According to the report, 76 traffic accidents occurred during the said period, resulting in 23 injuries. The leading causes of accidents were speeding (24), careless driving (18), failure to stop at intersections (10), tailgating (9), and other factors (15). The total damage caused by the accidents was reported to be 5,386,700 TL, with accidents mainly happening in Nicosia (32), Famagusta (15), Kyrenia (15), Morphou (8), and Iskele (6).

During the same period, traffic police conducted routine traffic inspections throughout the country, in which 13,689 drivers were checked. Out of those, 1,430 drivers were issued fines for various traffic violations. The most common violation was driving without a license (454 offenses), followed by using a mobile phone while driving (215 offenses) and driving without a navigation license (112 offenses). Other violations included dangerous driving, careless driving, driving without a driving license, drunk driving, driving without a seatbelt, and failure to comply with traffic signs and lights.

The high number of accidents and traffic violations in Northern Cyprus highlights the importance of safe driving practices and regular traffic law enforcement. Drivers are urged to be more cautious and follow traffic laws to prevent accidents and ensure road safety for all.
