According to the news article on the Alithia newspaper, during "The Cyprus Investment Summit" organized by the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus, Invest Cyprus, and "Cypriots In the City" Association, Papanastasiu proposed solutions for utilizing natural gas, appealing to Turkey and contributing to the resolution of the Cyprus problem by utilizing energy resources.

The newspaper reported that Papanastasiu previously stated that even though Turkey objected, the goal of bringing gas from Israel's Exclusive Economic Zone and South Cyprus's so-called "EEZ" to Vasiliko to be used in electricity production for the domestic market and export to Europe could not be prevented. However, now he is speaking about offering an attractive energy proposal to Turkey.

According to the news report, Papanastasiu also mentioned the connection of South Cyprus's electricity network to the networks of other countries, including Greece, which would make South Cyprus part of the European energy network.
