Political parties evaluate AKEL's recent proposals or turkish Cypriots
South Cyprus political parties, including DISI, DIKO, and EDEK, have responded to the recent proposals for Turkish Cypriots prepared by AKEL and expected to be evaluated by Cyprus President Nikos Hristodulidis.
DISI Member of Parliament Nikos Yeorgiu expressed that any initiative concerning the Turkish Cypriot community and bicommunal issues would be a step in the right direction and emphasized the need to promote measures that improve relations between the two communities. Yeorgiu added that the Republic of Cyprus should not abandon Turkish Cypriots.
DİKO MP Hristos Senekis backed the proposals, claiming that measures to bring citizens of both communities closer together would demolish Turkish arguments that Greeks and Turks cannot coexist. Senekis also contended that a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem could only be achieved through the EU's political agenda.
The press spokesman for EDEK, Yorgos Yeorgiu, stated that they had not received any official information regarding either AKEL's proposed measures for Turkish Cypriots or the meeting that Cyprus President Nikos Hristodulidis held with a Turkish Cypriot group.
