New Ercan Airport commences operations with inaugural flight to Adana

Today marked the beginning of flights at the newly inaugurated Ercan Airport, with Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan landing on the airport's runway and a subsequent ceremony. The first flight from the new Ercan Airport runway was destined for Adana.

After the opening of the new terminal building and runway at Ercan Airport, the last flight from the old runway took place yesterday. Turkish Airlines' TK967, operating from Ercan to Sabiha Gökçen (Istanbul), served as the final flight from the old Ercan Airport.

EMOTIONAL MOMENTS AT ERCAN...

The airport staff made an announcement about the last flight departing from Ercan Airport. As the staff member delivered the speech, recorded footage showed passengers waving goodbye and smiling at the airport.

Some employees witnessed the departure of the last flight, experiencing emotional moments and shedding tears.

The airport staff's speech was as follows:

"Dear passengers, Ercan Airport, which opened its doors to flights on February 3, 1975, will be closed to flight traffic after Turkish Airlines' TK967 Ercan-Istanbul flight, scheduled for tonight at 18:45."
