Prof. Dr. Turgay Avcı, the President of YÖDAK, mentioned that in 2021, Northern Cyprus universities filled 7,560 out of the 13,369 YKS quotas, achieving a rate of 56%. He also reminded that last year, out of the 14,895 YKS quotas, 11,141 were filled, resulting in a total occupancy rate of 74.80%.

In his assessment to the TAK reporter about the 2023 YKS placement results announced yesterday, Avcı pointed out that this year, 16,700 quotas were opened, of which 13,728 were filled. He expressed his satisfaction with the increase in the number of enrolled students every year.

Avcı also stated that there has been an increase in equivalent student numbers (the number of students obtained by evaluating scholarship rates) compared to previous years, emphasizing that the contribution of incoming students to the country's economy has also increased.

Avcı attributed this significant increase to both the increase in quotas provided by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the opening of new departments and the increase in the number of programs at universities.

Avcı recalled that as a result of discussions with the Ministry of National Education and YÖK, an increase in quotas was made, and in addition, some technological advancements were made to meet the evolving technology and needs of the day, leading to the opening of departments that are in demand.
