Prison Guards Union: New Prison Operating Above Capacity
The Prison Guards Union has raised concerns about the new prison operating beyond its capacity, stating that they are currently trying to accommodate 900 inmates in cells designed for 650. Their only support is the old prison building.
In a statement issued by the Prison Guards Union, it was revealed that the number of prisoners and detainees at the Central Prison has exceeded 900, even though the newly built prison was designed for 750 inmates, with 100 of them intended for an open prison. At present, they are attempting to fit 900 inmates into cells designed for 650.
The statement also pointed out that the police are waiting for 37,000 warrants to be executed, adding, "It is obvious that if our country's borders are not brought under control and the economic crisis is not addressed, there will be an increase in criminal activity and crime rates."
The statement emphasized that their only support at this point is the old prison building. Therefore, urgent renovations and the provision of necessary personnel are essential to make the old building suitable for security and humane living conditions. Currently, there are nearly 200 prisoners and detainees in the old prison.
The statement further called for immediate action, including renovations and personnel recruitment, to ensure that both prisons operate efficiently and safely. Failure to address these issues and reach a consensus will result in escalating problems and continued public concern about the prison system.
