Prescription Fraud Case: 3 Pharmacists and 3 Doctors Remain in Custody for 4 More Days
In the ongoing investigation into prescription fraud involving "insurance prescriptions," three pharmacists and three doctors, who were previously arrested and brought before the court, will remain in custody for an additional four days.
During the court proceedings, Police Sergeant Mehmet Manaş presented the details of the case. He mentioned that 26 bags of cut prescription forms for medications were found in the Lefke region. Additionally, approximately 160,000 more prescriptions are under scrutiny as part of the investigation.
Manaş also noted that out of 50 statements taken so far, 45 individuals were found to be linked to the crime. The ongoing investigation involves obtaining further statements, examining individuals involved, reviewing prescriptions, and analyzing electronic devices. The police requested an additional eight days of detention for the suspects.
The lawyers representing the suspects appealed for their release on bail, but the court decided to extend the detention of the suspects for another four days.
It's worth noting that a total of 13 individuals have been arrested in connection with the prescription fraud case. Among them are five doctors, five pharmacists, and three other individuals who were found to have forged signatures on prescriptions. These suspects include 11 individuals from Nicosia and two from Famagusta, with more court appearances expected in the coming days.
