Russian Ambassador Murat Zyazikov reiterated Russia's unwavering support for a just, lasting, and comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem based on international law and UN Security Council resolutions in an interview with "Rossiyskaya Gazeta." He stressed the importance of the final decision on the solution being made by the residents of the island and rejected any efforts to impose timetables or solutions from external sources.

Zyazikov also expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue with the leaders of both the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot sides. He emphasized that Russia's position on the Cyprus issue has not changed and that they have never doubted the fundamental principles of a peaceful solution to the problem.

Regarding claims that Russia is ready to establish official relations with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Zyazikov stated that Russia has no intention of changing its known positions on the Cyprus issue. He emphasized that Russia is open to developing cooperation with all countries based on mutual benefit and considering the national interests of both sides. Zyazikov also mentioned the constructive dialogue between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which covered various topics, including Cyprus, during their meeting in Sochi.
