AKEL has highlighted obstacles faced by Turkish Cypriots in their participation in European Parliament elections, pointing out that additional requirements, including signing an "additional responsibility declaration," have been imposed beyond the specified procedures for registration in the special voter registry.

According to Alithia newspaper, AKEL noted that these obstacles had led to long queues at polling stations in the past, with many Turkish Cypriots unable to cast their votes and returning without doing so.

The newspaper reported that the issue was discussed in the House Interior Committee yesterday, during which AKEL MP Aristos Damianou raised concerns about the difficulties faced by Turkish Cypriots in voting in the upcoming European Parliament elections.

Damianou reportedly criticized the government for taking steps that have set back relations with the Turkish Cypriot community while President Nikos Christodoulides spoke of a positive agenda. He emphasized the need to be prepared to face the consequences of this wrong decision.
