Interior Minister Meets Union Leaders to Address Issues
Interior Minister Dursun Oğuz received the President of the Cyprus Turkish Public Employees' Union (KTAMS), Güven Bengihan, and the President of the Cyprus Turkish Public Servants Union (KAMU-SEN), Metin Atan.
During the meeting, union leaders conveyed concerns about issues at the prison, the Iskele Land Registry Office, and the Lefke District Governorship, and requested their resolution.
Metin Atan, President of KAMU-SEN, highlighted various problems in government departments and institutions under the Ministry of Interior. He urged the swift resolution of these issues, emphasizing that there are over 900 detainees in the prison, which has a capacity of 725. Atan also mentioned that there are technical staff members who have not been employed despite having positions on the roster.
Güven Bengihan, President of KTAMS, also pointed out technical and infrastructure issues at the newly built prison, where technical staff members were not employed despite it being constructed with state-of-the-art facilities. He indicated that the prison's current inmate population exceeds the planned capacity. Bengihan highlighted the shortage of prison guards to manage both the old and new prison buildings effectively.
Furthermore, Bengihan discussed problems at the Iskele Land Registry Office and the Lefke District Governorship, where citizens have been experiencing difficulties in receiving services.
In response, Interior Minister Dursun Oğuz assured the union leaders that he is aware of the existing problems and expressed his commitment to collaborating with the unions to find solutions to these issues.
